The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee hopes to inspire thoughtful conversations around belonging and equity at this year’s Annual Meeting to help all AOFAS members feel more connected and represented.  

You can help by sharing a story about how your career has been impacted -either positively or negatively- by factors such as race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. 

Your story will be shared (anonymously, if preferred) as a poster in the convention center or projected slide at the Annual Meeting. Staff may edit your story for clarity, tone, or brevity with your final approval.

If you want to share a story and don’t know where to start, feel free to think about one of these questions:

• Was there a time someone advocated on your behalf or helped you feel a sense of belonging?
• Has privilege or bias afforded you different treatment than someone else?
• When did you discover a privilege or bias you had and what did you do with that knowledge?
• Did you ever observe an unconscious bias play out in the workplace?
• Have you ever felt out of place and pressure to conform or fit in?
