  • Established in 2020, the Pierce E. Scranton Humanitarian Service Award is named after Pierce E. Scranton, MD, founder of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation (OFAF). Dr. Scranton started the Vietnam Outreach Project and was integral in the early years of the project.

    This award is given in recognition of exemplary humanitarian service to AOFAS/OFAF programs. The awardee will demonstrate a passion for foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery humanitarian work by providing surgical expertise and training in an area of the world with limited foot and ankle care. 

  • Nominations

    Nominations will be open until May 28, 2026, at 5:00 pm CT. Reviews by the OFAF Humanitarian Services Committee will be completed by June 19, 2026. If an awardee is chosen, the awardee will be announced at the AOFAS Annual Meeting in September, and the plaque will be presented to the awardee during the Foundation Awards Ceremony. The individual must be nominated by an AOFAS member in good standing. No self-nominations will be accepted.

  • Eligibility

    Nominee must be a member of AOFAS who has demonstrated a consistent passion for foot and ankle humanitarian work by providing surgical expertise and training in areas of the world with limited foot and ankle care.

    All active US, Canadian and International dues-paying members in good standing are eligible to be nominated. 

    The award winner must commit to attend the Foundation Awards portion of AOFAS Annual Meeting 2026, to be held September 16-19, 2026, in Seattle, Washington.
